You may find yourself stressing out over the little things, or maybe you’re more emotional than usual. This may be a sign that you are in need of some self-care. Taking some time out for yourself can be great for your mental and physical health. It can also help you to recharge your batteries and then smash your goals. Whether you’re new to self-care or practice it regularly, we have something for everyone. Read on for our top tips for self-care!
#1 Take time out for you
The first step in self-care is to make time for yourself. The best way to recharge your batteries is to take a moment that is purely for you. Whilst this may seem difficult it doesn’t need to be for long. You could simply spend 5 minutes before you go to bed reading your favourite book or putting on a face mask. Taking some time for yourself allows you to unwind and feel refreshed.
#2 Make sure to get enough sleep
If you’re feeling tired and overworked, you may find it difficult to effectively deal with problems that arise. One of the best ways to look after your mental and physical health is to get enough sleep. We recommend 7-8 hours per night. But, the best timing may vary for each of us, so take some time to work out what works best for you. Sleep allows our bodies and minds to recharge and process the day that has passed. Try developing a regular sleep routine by going to bed and waking up at the same time each day for the best results!
#3 Write down the things you are grateful for
Even if you’re short on time, a great way to boost your mood is to think about the things you’re grateful for. You could do this by getting into the habit of writing down some points each night before you go to sleep. Rather than focusing on the negatives, making a list of the things you appreciate can be the perfect mood booster. These can be simple things such as being grateful for getting through the day. What you write down will depend on your day, but just enjoy a moment to appreciate the little things in life.
#4 Do the things that make you happy
With our busy schedules it’s easy to get caught up doing the things that need to be done. Whilst this may be productive and help you to smash your goals you may find your mental health starts to suffer. Take a moment for some self-care to do something you enjoy. Try scheduling some time each day to do something that makes you happy. This could be going for a walk with a friend, dancing in your living room or even drawing. Setting aside some time each week to do something you enjoy will help to keep you motivated and be the best version of you.
#5 Go easy on yourself
We are all taught to strive for our goals and do our best in every situation. This can cause us to put a lot of pressure on ourselves to get things right every time. It is important to remember that it’s ok to make mistakes. Instead of beating yourself up when something goes wrong – try to think of one thing you have learnt from the situation. Even if it seems like nothing is going your way, trust that it’s all part of the process. Give yourself some time to rest and refresh. Then, when you are ready, you can think about what you would like to do next. Whether this means moving onto something else or giving it another crack, do what is best for you!
