It’s Australia Day, which for many of us means beach, BBQ and/or beers… so how to finish the day without feeling bloated and uncomfortable? Here are my top 4 tips for a gut friendly BBQ!
(and don’t forget to read to the bottom to learn more about our competition!
1. Choose lean protein, and flavour with gut friendly ingredients.
Herbs and spices such as basil, coriander, turmeric and rosemary, garlic infused olive oil and the green parts of spring onions all make delicious additions to your meat patties and lamb steaks. For something that is delicious, and slightly different to your average BBQ, give the guys from No Worries Curries a call – they have some delicious Indian spice mixes for marinating your meats and vegetables. If you choose sausages, ensure they are low FODMAP ones – I love Lewis and Son sausages, and they’re certified as being FODMAP friendly!
2. Low FODMAP salads
Incorporate low FODMAP salads. Having these available means that you won’t have to worry about filling your plate with vegetables. Choose low FODMAP ingredients, and dress with a little olive oil and lemon juice. Yum!
3. Platters on platters
Did you know that most cheeses are low FODMAP? Stay tuned next week for a WHOLE BLOG on this! In the mean time, what else can go on your platter? Some low fodmap dips and relishes I hear you say? No Go Sauces have a great range of relishes, that can often also double as marinades for meats (see point 1). Pair with capsicum, carrot and cucumber sticks and low FODMAP crackers.
4. Drink up!
For most people with IBS, drinking alcohol is a recipe for symptom flares. Understandably, you likely don’t want to be missing out on anything! The Powder People have a fabulous turmeric mix to make a turmeric latte, or you can use it to mix the perfect anti-inflammatory shot, with some blueberries, ice cubes and water. Or, try out The FODMAP Friendly Tea Co’s delicious range of teas; mixing up a pitcher of iced tea to share at the BBQ is sure to be a hit!
